Chapter 1 Halloween Part 1Sebastian didn't know which part of walking home from school he hated more. Perhaps it was the fact his brother, Vincent, always walked behind him, leading his friends in poking fun of the young boy. Sebastian would always pull his hood forward more to cover his face and try to ignore the taunts. That, however, wasn't the worst of it.
Summer had ended some months ago. The air was getting colder and bugs were dying by the truckload. The very atmosphere of the tiny New Jersey town Sebastian called home had changed. Rumors and stories that had stayed dormant over the past seasons shook off their gathered dust and moved to the forefront of everyone's memory.
They were horrid things, dark and gruesome and they sent shivers down many a spine. If push came to shove, Sebastian would have chosen this as the worst. They passed a copse in which lay a deep lake that no one went near. It was framed by fir trees that soared towards the sky and funneled light to the lake.
